"it was a fantastic trip, it was everything I wanted and more. The bolivian mountain guides and clients worked very well together which helped to make it an excellent trip". Dan K.
Bolivian Journeys. This Mountaineering school is a spectacular trip in the Bolivian Mountains, which has been called the "Himalaya of the New World.". Our 6 day Aymara Trilogy expedition is designed for climbers with little mountaineering experience, who want to climb two challenging beautiful peaks. The trip begins in the Condoriri National Park with a hike to Pico Mirador 17,000 ft (5,200 m) , climb of Pequeno Alpamayo 17,614 ft (5,370 m) and finally Huayna Potosi 19,968 ft (6,088 m), a very rewarding climb and one of the most beautiful mountains on the continent.
There are ONLY 4 places available on each Expedition !
Day 1. Departure 9:00 am, 10:30 arrival to "Plaza de Llamas" 4,500 m (14,760 ft). We meet our arriero and his llamas, with the animals carrying the bulk of our gear, we make an easy-paced ascent to our base camp at 4,600 m (15,100 ft). The trek takes us through some beautiful valley landscapes, and our camp provides excellent views of the many surrounding mountains and puts us in position to make the ascents. We set up camp near a lake below the magnificently sculptured white tower of Condoriri.
Day 2. Hike to Pico Mirador 5,300m (17,384ft).
Day 3. We proceed to Pequeño Alpamayo. Simply an outstanding climb, the aesthetic nature of this mountain embodies the lure of Bolivian climbing. We climb a broad glacier to a col, traverse along a ridge to the base of the summit pyramid, and then ascend directly to the top. The entire route is photogenic and offers excellent climbing.
Day 4. Transfer to Huayna Potosi base camp.
Day 5. A short 3 hours hike to High Camp 5,300 m (17,384 ft). We have the whole afternoon to "rest", at this altitude you should drink as much as you can, digestion works very slowly, so don't eat so much. A good advice "try to sleep".
Day 6. Early wake up as our ascent can take up to 6 hours. Setting off from that camp with sunrise over the Amazon Basin to our east, we climb a beautiful route which includes serious glacier travel and intermittent sections of moderately steep ground - challenging climbing. With Huayna Potosi's summit a well-defined point at the end of a beautifully sculptured ridge, the last few steps to the top provide an exhilarating finish to a great climb. Around 8:00 am, on the summit already, you'll be rewarded with beautiful views of Lake Titikaka, the Amazon basin, and the Cordillera Real. Two hours descent to high camp, and one more to base camp. Finally after a short drive you'll be in La Paz around 16:00.
